English Language Paper 2

Paper 2 is called 'Writers' Viewpoints and Perspectives'
 
It involves:

Section A: Reading one non-fiction text and one literary non-fiction text

Section B: Writing writing to present a viewpoint

50% of GCSE

The Reading Paper

Question 1

Short form question - 4 marks

AO1: Identify and understand explicit (obvious) and implicit (hidden) information and ideas. Select and synthesize (blend) evidence.

This means you need to:

  • Find important quotations

  • Say what is obvious in a text

Question 2

Longer form question - 8 marks

This tests:

AO2: Explain, comment on and analyse how writers use language to achieve effects and influence readers, using relevant subject terminology.
